About this deal

I’ve worked with kids at church and my goodness, they are just little sacks of poop and uncontrolled emotion) and horror not only rips away that innocence but turns them into the very opposite? He has produced over sixty of his own titles, including much-loved favourites Ketchup on Your Cornflakes and Shark in the Park.

I feel for Destiny's mum as well who was never developed further than as a character obsessed with Danny, and she never gained her own agency. She has been employed in many occupations including farm hand, factory worker, childminder and music teacher. It would have been great to see a storyline where Destiny and her mother find happiness with themselves, after seeing Danny's reality at the premiere.

Funnily enough, I just started reading Once Upon a River, I’m only a short way in but think it’s great so far. The first bit got be kinda bored, but as we went into the story, it became more vivid ans i found myself Destiny, i was her, and my mum was my mum pretty much obvious, it was real. Girls keeping their families going, girls trying to get away… Jacqueline Wilson’s written about them all! After all the hassle of trying to get Destiny to meet her father, I also found the ending to be weak and abrupt and wish that moment had been more fleshed out. I am not great at horror myself (I can only dabble), so I can’t imagine how scary this one is to have creeped you out! I do love a story based around old myths, tales or legends so was very intrigued when I discovered Little Darlings is just that. Parts of the book left me impatient for something significant to happen but instead of building up expectation, I got bored. Of course different characters perceive each other in different ways, but Patrick (Lauren’s husband) swung so wildly from devoted family man to selfish cad that it’s impossible to say what kind of person he is or what his motives might be.

Little Darlings is a book that everyone can relate to and the descriptions used by Wilson help to create a cognitive visual of the story. Lauren finally goes home, but paranoia about the safety of the children sets in which is heightened when an old book appears full of tales about changelings. To say more kind of gives it away but if you don't have any ability to accept the otherworldly then it's not the book for you. It’s true that horror feels less gripping on the page than on the screen, and it took King’s “IT” to scare me out of my skin for good, so if this novel is just as terrifying I will welcome it into my personal gallery of creepy masterpieces .Anyway h*gwarts houses are boring and overdone and tell you nothing about a person your true test of character is if you related to Destiny or Sunset more as a kid. It’s certainly entertaining on the surface; if you’re ever just looking for a quick thrill this does the job- unfortunately it just didn’t do any more than that for me. To me, this complete change of direction feels like a cop-out of sorts; a departure from the original topic. As a word of caution, if you're sensitive to children in danger, traumatic childbirth scenarios, or anything involving children, really, then keep in mind that this plays with those element quite a bit--it is a story centered around changelings, after all.
